The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about a shift in the usual order of things. In the midst of social distancing and wearing masks, you may no longer have your colleagues at the next desk or your boss in the next room to review your work. If your business is not considered an essential service in this period, but your work activities can be done remotely, then hope has not run out for you yet. Here are some tools to help you get some work done while in quarantine or lockdown or if you are just staying home to help flatten the curve. But before you continue, do not forget to wash your hands or sanitize your phones, remote controls and other regularly used gadgets.

To work from home or remotely, you will need communication tools, project management tools and tools that enable file sharing and storage. All these categories of tools when put together effectively will surely make you a super remote worker. These are tools we have tried and recommend to be helpful to you working remotely, whenever the need arises.

  1. Communication tools

It is absolutely essential that you keep connected with your colleagues and team members. Having effective communication channels is very helpful, especially during these times. These tools can complement and integrate with each other;

  • Google Meet — Have video conference calls with your team. This encourages face to face interactions. You can feel much closer to your team even though you are ‘social distancing’.

  • Google Chat — From direct messages to group conversations, Google Chat helps teams collaborate easily and efficiently with real time interactions with your colleagues. You can also share your google files easily through this platform.

  • Microsoft Teams — is the hub for team collaboration in Office 365 that integrates the people, content, and tools your team needs to be more engaged and effective.

  • Slack — With all of your communication and tools in one place, remote teams will stay productive no matter where you’re working from.

2. Project Management tools

Who says projects have to be completely halted in this period. With these tools you can have a common place to monitor your progress on projects.

  • Trello — Trello’s boards, lists, and cards enable you to organize and prioritize your projects in a fun, flexible, and rewarding way.

  • Todoist — Get a clear overview of everything on your plate and never lose track of an important task.

3. File Sharing

As you work from home or remotely, there is going to be a time where files are to be shared with each other. Sometimes you would want to collaborate on documents at the same time, together; in real time. Well that is possible and easier than you think. With DocsSheets and Slides from G Suite, work can be done easier, faster and together.

4. File Storage

When files are shared, the next thing is to have a place to save or store them safely and securely. G Suite’s Google Drive is a perfect tool for such a function. Powerfully secured with Google’s own technology, security and safety is top priority when using the Drive.

There are many other tools out there that fit in these categories and more are being built every other day. But as mentioned earlier, we can vouch for these ones. So go ahead and try them out. See what best fits your style and need at this moment. Stay connected with your team and in tune with your business while we wait this pandemic out together.
